Jiǔ Yú Ròu (Wine-processed Cornus Fruit) is a Chinese medicinal substance. It is a processed product of the Chinese medicinal material Shān Zhū Yú (Cornus Fruit). It is made from the dried ripe sarcocarp (fleshy pulp) of Cornus officinalis Sieb. et Zucc., a plant of the Cornaceae family, which has been cleaned and then stewed or steamed with wine. It appears as irregular slices or sac-like pieces, with a purplish-black or black surface, a moist and soft texture, and a slight wine-like aroma.

Indications

Used for dizziness and tinnitus, soreness and weakness of the lower back and knees, impotence and spermatorrhea, enuresis and frequent urination, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis with leukorrhea, profuse sweating with collapse (deficiency collapse), and wasting-thirst disorder due to internal heat, among other conditions.

Modern Pharmacology

Immunomodulatory effect: Exhibits immune-enhancing effects. Antipathogenic effect: Exhibits antibacterial and anti-influenza virus effects. Metabolic regulation: Exhibits hypoglycemic and diuretic effects, among others. Modern clinical applications: Clinically, it may be used in combination with other herbs for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, erectile dysfunction, and other conditions.

Ingredients

It mainly contains loganin, morroniside, gallic acid, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF), cornuside, and sweroside, among other components.

Usage & Dosage

Oral Administration: Decoction, the standard dosage is 6–12g. When used for stopping sweating and preventing collapse, the dosage may be increased to 30–60g. May also be prepared in pills or powder.

Contraindications

Selected Formulas

For kidney yin deficiency (Xiao'er Yaozheng Zhijue, Liuwei Dihuang Wan) Take Jiuyurou (wine-processed Cornus fruit) together with Shudihuang (Prepared Rehmannia), Shanyao (Chinese yam), Zexie (Alisma), Mudanpi (Moutan bark), and Fuling (Poria). Make into pills and take. For five types of low back pain (Taiping Shenghui Fang) Take 1 liang of Shanzhuyu (Cornus fruit), 1 liang of Niuxi (Achyranthes root, seedlings removed), and 3 fen of Guixin (Cinnamon). Grind into fine powder. Take 2 qian before meals with warm wine. For kidney deficiency with low back pain and beriberi (Jin Gui Yao Lue, Cuishi Bawei Wan) Take Shanzhuyu with dried Dihuang (Rehmannia), Shuyu (Chinese yam), Zexie, Fuling, Mudanpi, Guizhi (Cinnamon twig), and Fuzi (Aconite). Mix with honey to make pills and take.
