Artocarpi Hypargyrei Radix
Aliases:Jiāng Jūn Shù Gēn (General‘s Tree Root)
Bái Guì Mù Gēn is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb. It is the root of Artocarpus hypargyreus Hance, a plant belonging to the genus Artocarpus of the family Moraceae. This plant is a tree, reaching up to 10 meters in height, with white latex throughout the plant.

Dispels wind, promotes diuresis, activates blood circulation, and unblocks the meridians.
Indications
Indicated for wind-dampness arthralgia (rheumatic joint pain), headache, and insufficient lactation in postpartum women. It may also be used for soreness and weakness of the lower back and knees.
Modern Pharmacology
Anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects: The ethyl acetate fraction of the root extract exhibits significant anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. It can significantly improve the symptoms of adjuvant-induced arthritis in rats and inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and nitric oxide (NO) in serum. Anti-rheumatoid arthritis effects: The ethyl acetate fraction may be the active fraction responsible for its therapeutic effects on rheumatoid arthritis. Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties: Active components in the root extract possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Other activities: Also exhibits antibacterial, analgesic, hypoglycemic, lipid-lowering, and antitumor effects.

Usage & Dosage
For oral administration: decoct in water, 15–30 g; or steep in wine for consumption.

Selected Formulas
For wind-dampness impediment with pain (empirical formula) Take 15–30g of Bai Gui Mu (Artocarpus hypargyreus) root, decoct in water and drink; or soak in wine for internal and external use; or decoct in water with sweet wine and drink. For headache (empirical formula) Take 15–30g of Bai Gui Mu root, decoct in water and drink. For insufficient lactation in postpartum women (empirical formula) Take 15–30g of Bai Gui Mu root, decoct in water and drink; or stew with pig trotters and consume. For rheumatic joint pain and soreness of lower back and knees (empirical formula) Take 15–60g of Bai Gui Mu root, decoct in water and drink; or soak 15–60g in wine and take.
Daily Consumption
Wine infusion for oral administration: Artocarpus hypargyreus root may be steeped in white wine to make a medicinal wine for consumption in moderation.
