Aspidistrae Typicae Rhizoma

Zòng Bā Yè is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb. It is the rhizome of Aspidistra typica Baill., a plant belonging to the family Liliaceae. This plant is a perennial herb with a thick, creeping rhizome and numerous fibrous roots. The rhizome is nearly cylindrical in shape, approximately 7 mm in diameter, bearing slender fibrous roots. Its outer surface is yellowish-brown with nodes and scales.

Indications
Indicated for dysentery, malaria, wind-dampness arthralgia, kidney deficiency with lower back and leg pain, traumatic sprains and contusions, fractures, and snakebites.
Modern Pharmacology
Currently, there are few systematic modern pharmacological research reports on this herb. Based on available data, it is speculated to contain alkaloids, flavonoids, polysaccharides, and other components, with certain blood-activating and stasis-resolving effects. It is commonly used in clinical practice for treating traumatic injuries. Patent literature records that this herb can be used in compound Chinese medicinal formulas for the treatment of suppurative tonsillitis and urinary tract infections.
