Oculus Fugu ocellatus
Hé Tún Mù (Pufferfish Eye) is a traditional Chinese medicinal material. It is the eyeball of Fugu ocellatus (Osbeck), Fugu vermicularis (Temminck et Schlegel), Fugu obscurus (Abe), and other related species belonging to the family Tetraodontidae. This medicinal material was first recorded in the Qing Dynasty work Bencao Fengyuan by Zhang Lu.

Modern Pharmacology
Modern pharmacological studies have demonstrated that pufferfish eyes contain tetrodotoxin (TTX). Tetrodotoxin is a potent neurotoxin that selectively blocks sodium ion channels, inhibiting the conduction of nerve impulses. This toxin exerts extremely strong neuroparalytic effects, producing significant biological activity at even trace doses. Mechanism of toxicity: Tetrodotoxin binds to voltage-gated sodium channels on the neuronal cell membrane, blocking sodium ion influx, thereby inhibiting the generation and conduction of action potentials, leading to neuromuscular paralysis. In the medical field, highly purified tetrodotoxin can be used as an advanced analgesic and local anesthetic, showing significant efficacy in treating neuralgia, muscle and joint pain, and other conditions. However, pufferfish eye, as an unrefined crude drug, is extremely toxic and strictly forbidden for internal use.
Ingredients
Tetrodotoxin (TTX): The primary toxic component, a neurotoxin. In addition, it also contains tetrodotoxin derivatives such as 4-epi-tetrodotoxin, 6-epi-tetrodotoxin, 11-deoxytetrodotoxin, and others.
Usage & Dosage
For external use: take an appropriate amount, grind into powder, dissolve in water, and apply topically to the affected area.
Contraindications
Strictly forbidden for internal use—pufferfish eye contains highly toxic substances; ingestion may cause severe poisoning or even death. Should only be used under the guidance of a qualified TCM practitioner. Self-collection and handling are strictly prohibited. Contraindicated in those allergic to this product. Contraindicated in pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and children. Use with caution on broken or ulcerated skin.
