Shān Huáng Dòu Téng is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb derived from the dried stem, leaf, or root of Rhynchosia dielsii Harms, a plant belonging to the family Leguminosae. This plant is a climbing herbaceous vine with slender stems densely covered with yellow long hairs or short pubescence. The leaves are alternate, trifoliate compound, with the terminal leaflet being nearly rhombic-ovate. The racemes are axillary, with yellow corollas. Shān Huáng Dòu Téng was first recorded in Sichuan Chinese Materia Medica.

Usage & Dosage

For infantile wind-heat with refusal to suckle and foaming at the mouth (Sichuan Chinese Materia Medica, 1979) Take 3g each of Shanhuangdouteng (a local herb), Yinhua vine (honeysuckle vine), Paifengteng (a local herb), Tu Huoxiang (a local herb), and Wupifeng (a local herb). Decoct in water and drink. For heart palpitations and fatigue (Sichuan Chinese Materia Medica, 1979) Take 10g each of Shanhuangdouteng, Zhuyexin (bamboo leaf core), Bajiaofeng root (Alangium chinense), and Yejiaoteng (Polygonum multiflorum vine). Stew with pork and consume.
