Lián Yè Liú Zú Jué (Lianye Liuzujue) is a traditional Chinese medicinal material. It is the whole herb or rhizome of Plagiogyria distinctissima Ching (also known as Plagiogyria rankanensis Hayata), a plant belonging to the family Plagiogyriaceae.

Clears heat and releases the exterior, dispels wind and relieves itching, and promotes eruption of rashes.

Indications

Influenza, measles, skin itching, metrorrhagia (uterine bleeding), and sprains.

Modern Pharmacology

Modern research has shown that Lián Yè Liú Zú Jué possesses antibacterial, antiviral, anti‑inflammatory, hemostatic, analgesic, antitussive, and expectorant effects. It can be used to treat various conditions such as influenza, measles, skin itching, eczema, metrorrhagia (uterine bleeding), and sprains.

Cosmosiin. Isokaempferide. Astragalin (kaempferol‑3‑O‑glucoside). 3β,27‑Dihydroxylup‑12‑ene. Hydroxyhopanone. Plagiogyrin A. Androsin. β‑Sitosterol. β‑Daucosterol.

Usage & Dosage

For oral administration: decoct in water, 9–15 g; or grind into powder. For topical application: appropriate amount, fresh herb mashed for application; or burn to ash, grind into powder, and mix with a suitable base for application.

For metrorrhagia in women (empirical formula) Take the whole plant of Lián Yè Liú Zú Jué (Plagiogyria distinctissima), decoct in water and drink orally; it may help prevent the passage of blood clots. For tinea capitis (alopecia areata) (empirical formula) Take the rhizome of Lián Yè Liú Zú Jué, burn it to ash, grind into powder, mix with oil, and apply to the affected area.
