Root of Chinese Edelweiss
Aliases:Huǒ Cǎo (literally "Fire Grass"), Huǒ Bǎ Huā (literally "Torch Flower"), and Huǒ Bǎ Cǎo (literally "Torch Grass"). (These are alternative names for É Yào, i.e., the root of Leontopodium artemisiifolium / Chinese Edelweiss Root.)
É Yào (Moth Herb) is a traditional Chinese medicinal material. It is the root of Leontopodium artemisiifolium (Levl.) Beauv. (also known as Leontopodium sinense Hemsl., commonly referred to as Duozhi Huorongcao or Hua Huorongcao), a plant belonging to the genus Leontopodium of the family Asteraceae. It grows on grassy slopes, pastures, forest edges, and along stream banks in valleys at altitudes of 1,000–3,000 meters. It is recorded in Yunnan Zhongcaoyao (Yunnan Chinese Herbal Medicine).

Clears heat, removes toxicity, reduces inflammation, and relieves pain.
Indications
Wind‑heat cough, tonsillitis, and pharyngitis.
Usage & Dosage
For oral administration: grind into powder, 1–2 g each time; or 3–5 fen (approximately 1–1.5 g) each time. For topical application: grind an appropriate amount into powder and apply to the throat by insufflation (blowing the powder directly onto the affected area).
Selected Formulas
For acute tonsillitis and pharyngitis (empirical formula) Take the root of E Yao (a local herb), grind into fine powder, and blow the powder directly onto the affected area. Apply 3 times daily, each time 5 fen (approx. 1.5g). For severe cases, it may also be taken orally at the same dosage: 5 fen (approx. 1.5g) each time, 3 times daily.
