Goose Saliva
Aliases:Goose spittle. (An alternative name for goose saliva.)
É Xián (Goose Saliva) is a traditional Chinese medicinal material. It is the oral secretion of the domestic goose Anser cygnoides Linnaeus or the greylag goose Anser anser Linnaeus, animals belonging to the family Anatidae. It was first recorded in Bencao Gangmu (Compendium of Materia Medica).
Efficacy & Actions
Clears heat, removes toxicity, reduces swelling, relieves pain, moistens dryness, and promotes fluid production.
Indications
Sore throat, mouth ulcers, and infantile oral thrush. Dry cough with scanty phlegm, and thirst due to dryness‑heat. Sores, boils, and insect bites (for external use).
Modern Pharmacology
Modern research has shown that goose saliva contains various active substances, such as lysozyme, immunoglobulins, and mucins, which exhibit antibacterial, anti‑inflammatory, and mucosal repair‑promoting effects. It has inhibitory effects on common pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus hemolyticus. In addition, the mucins in goose saliva can cover wounds, providing protective and lubricating effects.
Ingredients
Lysozyme. Immunoglobulin. Mucin. Various amino acids and trace elements.
