Gāo Shān Táng Sōng Cǎo (Alpine Meadow-rue) is a traditional Chinese medicinal material. It is the dried root and rhizome of Thalictrum alpinum L., a plant belonging to the family Ranunculaceae. It grows in alpine grasslands, shady valleys, or swamps at altitudes of 2,500–5,300 meters. It is recorded in Zhonghua Bencao (Chinese Materia Medica).

Indications

Headache, red eyes, diarrhea, dysentery, and sores.

Usage & Dosage

For oral administration: decoct in water, 3–10 g. For topical application: appropriate amount, ground into powder and applied with a suitable base.

Selected Formulas

For toxic swellings (empirical formula) Take an appropriate amount of Gaoshan Tangsongcao (Thalictrum alpinum, also known as Mawei Huanglian), crush it, spread on gauze, and wrap the affected area. Change the dressing once daily. For chest and diaphragm fullness (empirical formula) Take 9g of Mawei Huanglian, decoct in wine and drink.
