Indications
Lung‑heat cough, whooping cough with hemoptysis, night sweats, toothache, rheumatic joint pain and muscular pain, traumatic injuries, and external use for burns and scalds.
Modern Pharmacology
Kōng Xīn Pào (Hollow Raspberry) has antibacterial effects.
Usage & Dosage
For oral administration: decoct in water, 15–30 g. For topical application: mash the tender branch tips and apply to the affected area. For medicinal wine: the root can be steeped in wine for oral use.
Contraindications
Use with caution in patients with Spleen‑Stomach deficiency‑cold.

For whooping cough in children (Guizhou Folk Herbal Medicines) Take 12g of Kongxinpao (a local herb), 12g of Potongqian (a local herb), 3g of Gouteng gen (Uncaria root), and 12g of Lanbuzheng (a local herb). Soak in 500g of wine. Take 20ml twice daily. For rectal prolapse and dysentery with red and white stools (Guizhou Folk Herbal Medicines) Take 15g each of Kongxinpao, Fanbeihong (a local herb), and Diyu (Sanguisorba officinalis). Decoct in water and drink.
