Toxicodendron vernicifluum (Stokes) F.A.Barkl.
Qī Yè (Lacquer Leaf) is a traditional Chinese medicinal material. It is the leaf of Toxicodendron vernicifluum (Stokes) F.A.Barkl., a plant belonging to the family Anacardiaceae. It grows in sunny mountain forests at altitudes of 800–2,800 meters, and is also cultivated. It was first recorded in Bencao Tujing (Illustrated Materia Medica).

Activates blood, removes toxicity, kills parasites, and heals sores.
Indications
Purpura fulminans (purple swelling on the face), traumatic bleeding with swelling and bruising, ulcerated sores, scabies and ringworm, and lacquer poisoning.
Ingredients
Lacquer leaf contains lobinin.
Usage & Dosage
For topical application: apply an appropriate amount, mashed; or extract the juice and apply; or decoct in water and wash the affected area. Note: For external use only. Do not take internally.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with Yin deficiency. Contraindicated in individuals allergic to lacquer trees. For external use only. Strictly prohibited for internal use. This product is slightly toxic and should be used under the guidance of a physician. When treating lacquer poisoning, avoid washing with warm water and avoid alcohol consumption. According to Bencao Qiuyuan (Seeking the Origins of Materia Medica): "Apply the juice of lacquer leaves, or decoct in water and allow to cool before washing. Avoid warm water and alcohol."

For lacquer poisoning (contact dermatitis from Toxicodendron vernicifluum) (Bencao Qiuyuan) Take the juice of lacquer leaves and apply externally, or decoct the leaves in water, let it cool, and wash the affected area. Avoid washing with warm water and avoid alcohol consumption. For traumatic bleeding and ulcerated sores (Luchuan Bencao) Take fresh lacquer leaves, crush them, and apply to the affected area. For purple skin lesions and facial purple swelling (Benjing Fengyuan) Apply lacquer leaf juice or paste to the affected area.
