Gān Mù Tōng (Ganmutong) is a traditional Chinese medicinal material. It is the leaf and root of Clematis filamentosa Dunn, a plant belonging to the family Ranunculaceae. It grows in shrub thickets or dense forests beside streams and in valleys at altitudes of 500–1,600 meters.

Modern Pharmacology

For oral administration: decoct in water, 9–15 g. For topical application: take an appropriate amount of the fresh herb, mash it, and apply to the affected area. It can also be used to treat unnamed toxic swellings. Additionally, it can be mashed and packed into the decayed tooth to relieve toothache.

Contraindications

As it has clear antihypertensive effects, patients with hypotension and pregnant women should use it with caution under the guidance of a physician.

For unnamed toxic swellings (empirical formula) Take an appropriate amount of fresh leaves of Ganmutong (a local herb), crush them, and apply to the affected area for 15 minutes each time.
