Polygonum tortuosum D. Don [P. periginatoris Pauls.]
Nì ā Luò is a traditional Chinese medicinal material. It is the rhizome of Polygonum tortuosum D.Don [P. periginatoris Pauls.], a plant belonging to the family Polygonaceae. It was first recorded in Xizang Changyong Zhongcaoyao (Commonly Used Chinese Herbal Medicines of Tibet).
Efficacy & Actions
Astringes the intestines and stops dysentery.
Indications
Acute and chronic dysentery, enteritis, and diarrhea.
Modern Pharmacology
Its chemical constituents suggest that it may possess anti‑inflammatory, antioxidant, and other biological activities, but the specific mechanisms of action remain to be further investigated.
Ingredients
It contains flavonoid compounds. A study has isolated four flavonoid compounds from the ethyl acetate extract of “Nì ā Luò” (Polygonum tortuosum), among which one is a new compound (Periginatorine I), and the other three were identified from this plant for the first time.
Usage & Dosage
For oral administration: decoct in water, 10–15 g.
