Hong Yun Cao (Maclure's Ardisia) is a traditional Chinese medicinal material. It is the dried whole plant of Ardisia maclurei Merr., a plant belonging to the family Myrsinaceae. It grows in damp, shady places under forests at altitudes of 230–860 meters. This product is one of the traditional "Lao Ban Yao" (a category of classic traditional medicines in Yao medicine) and is known in Yao medicine as "Zou Ma Feng." It was first recorded in Quanguo Zhongcaoyao Huibian (Compilation of National Chinese Herbal Medicines) and Zhonghua Bencao (Chinese Materia Medica).

Indications
Pulmonary tuberculosis with hemoptysis, and bronchitis; Hepatitis, irregular menstruation, and infertility; Rheumatic pain and rheumatoid arthritis; Traumatic injuries and postpartum weakness.
Usage & Dosage
For oral administration: decoct in water, 10–15 g. For topical application: take an appropriate amount, mash, and apply externally.
Selected Formulas
For hemoptysis, hematemesis, hematochezia, hematuria, and various internal hemorrhages Take 10g of Hongyuncao (a local herb), 30g each of Tusanqi (Sedum aizoon or Gynura segetum) and Mohanlian (Eclipta prostrata), and 15g of Ejiao (Donkey-hide gelatin). Decoct in water and take cool.
