Efficacy & Actions

Warms the Lungs, relieves cough, and calms asthma.

Indications

Used for cough and whooping cough (pertussis).

Modern Pharmacology

Modern pharmacological research on Mairei Porana remains insufficient. Available data only record that its root contains lysergol, a constituent that provides the pharmacological basis for antitussive and antiasthmatic activity. Chemical studies on plants of the genus Porana show that the genus contains organic acids, coumarins, flavonoids, sterols, and other compounds. However, dedicated systematic pharmacological research on Mairei Porana (P. mairei) remains to be further conducted. Traditional actions and indications should remain the primary basis for use.

Ingredients

The root of Mairei Porana mainly contains the following constituents: Glucose. Lysergol: an ergot alkaloid constituent that provides the material basis for its antitussive and antiasthmatic activity. Note: Systematic chemical studies on Mairei Porana remain insufficient. Plants of the genus Porana contain various compounds such as chlorogenic acids, coumarins, amides, steroids, and flavonoids, but dedicated chemical studies on Mairei Porana are extremely limited.
