Rose, Snow Pear and Tremella Dessert Soup

Rose, snow pear and tremella dessert soup is an elegant upgrade to the classic tremella-pear combo, elevated by the addition of roses. The velvety tremella, the sweet crunch of pear, and the delicate fragrance of roses intertwine in an amber-hued broth. Roses, warm in nature, help soothe the liver and activate blood circulation – perfectly balancing the cool-moist properties of tremella and pear. The result is a soup that is both moisturizing and gently warming – a true "beauty and wellness" tonic for those seeking inner and outer nourishment.

Main Ingredients

  • Dried tremella (sticky variety preferred) 1 piece (approx. 20g)
  • Snow pear 1-2 pcs (approx. 300g, peeled and cored net weight approx. 250g)
  • Dried edible roses 5-8 buds
  • Goji berries 10g
  • Rock sugar 30-40g
  • Water 1.8-2.2L

Steps

  1. Place tremella in a bowl, cover with cold water (never hot). Soak for 2-3 hours until fully expanded. Trim the hard yellow root, then tear into tiny pieces (smaller pieces = more gelatin). Rinse and drain.

  2. Scrub the pear with salt, rinse well, and cut into 2cm chunks (skin on). If peeled, soak in lightly salted water to prevent browning, then drain.

  3. Place shredded tremella into a clay pot with water (approx. 1.8L). Bring to a boil, then reduce to low heat, cover, and simmer for 40-50 minutes until the tremella softens and the liquid becomes slightly viscous.

  4. Add the pear chunks (and pear skins if reserved). Continue simmering over low heat for 20-30 minutes until the pear turns translucent and the tremella fully releases its collagen.

  5. In the last 5-8 minutes, add rock sugar and goji berries. 3-5 minutes before turning off the heat, add the dried roses, letting them steep in the residual heat to release their aroma (do not boil for long, or the roses will fade and lose their fragrance).

  6. Remove and discard the pear skins (if used). Serve warm or chilled – both are delightful.

TCM Notes

Moistening the lungs, nourishing yin & beautifying the skin (core benefit of tremella + pear): Tremella polysaccharides lock in moisture and reduce wrinkles; snow pear provides vitamin C and sorbitol to scavenge free radicals and boost collagen – together they hydrate from within. Soothing the liver, relieving depression & regulating blood (core benefit of roses): Roses, warm in nature, move qi, relieve depression, and harmonize blood – helping to ease emotional distress, chest tightness, and irregular menstruation. Their warm nature balances the cooling effects of tremella and pear. Moistening dryness, relieving cough & quenching thirst: Snow pear clears lung heat and relieves dry cough; tremella nourishes lung yin, alleviating nasal and throat dryness. Immunity-boosting & anti-aging: Tremella polysaccharides enhance immune function; roses are rich in volatile oils, vitamin C, and antioxidants – working together to scavenge free radicals and slow aging. Calming the mind & promoting sleep: Tremella contains tryptophan and minerals that soothe nerves; the fragrance of roses helps balance emotions and relieve stress.

Suitable forThose with dry, rough skin needing internal beauty care Those with lung-dry coughs, dry throat, or heatiness in autumn/winter Those with emotional distress, irritability, or high work stress Women with irregular menstruation, menstrual pain, or postpartum weakness Those with late-night habits, smokers, or working in AC/dry environments Menopausal women (nourishing yin, relieving hot flashes and irritability) Those with low immunity or post-illness recovery

Not suitable forThose with spleen-stomach deficiency-cold or loose stools (Use with caution!): Tremella and pear are cooling and may worsen cold-dampness. If consuming, add 3-5 slices of ginger and 5 red dates to balance, and limit portion size. Those with wind-cold cough (Absolute contraindication!): This soup is specifically for "dry" and "heat" coughs – using it for wind-cold will trap pathogens. Pregnant women (Use with caution): Roses have blood-activating properties – consume in early pregnancy only under medical guidance. Reduce rose quantity to 2-3 buds if needed. Women during menstruation (heavy flow – use with caution!): Roses may increase menstrual flow – those with heavy flow should avoid; those with scanty flow or clots may consume in moderation. Diabetics (extreme caution): Contains added sugar and natural fructose. Omit rock sugar entirely, rely solely on the pear's natural sweetness, limit to ≤100ml, and monitor blood glucose post-meal. Those allergic to roses, tremella, or snow pear (Avoid).
