Banana Smoothie

Banana Smoothie is a classic healthy beverage enjoyed worldwide. Made with fresh bananas and milk (or yogurt) as the main ingredients, it is blended to perfection. Bananas are cool in nature (some sources say warm), sweet in taste, and channel to the Lung and Large Intestine meridians. They are known for clearing heat, moistening the intestines, detoxifying, promoting salivation, and moistening the lungs. Milk is neutral in nature, sweet in taste, and channels to the Heart, Lung, and Stomach meridians. It is known for tonifying deficiency, benefiting the lungs and stomach, and promoting salivation and moistening the intestines. Together, bananas provide potassium and dietary fiber, while milk provides high-quality protein and calcium, achieving the combined effects of moistening the intestines, relieving constipation, replenishing energy, and calming the spirit. The smoothie is creamy and rich, with the natural sweetness of bananas perfectly complemented by the smoothness of milk. This drink is especially suitable for those with constipation, those needing quick energy replenishment after exercise, those with insomnia, and children in their growing years.

Main Ingredients

  • Banana 1-2 pieces (approx. 100-200g)
  • Milk (or yogurt) 300ml
  • Honey (or maple syrup/sugar) To taste
  • Ice cubes 2-4 pieces (optional, for a chilled texture)
  • Cinnamon powder A pinch (for aroma)

Steps

  1. Peel the banana and cut into 2-3 cm sections. For a thicker, creamier texture, freeze the banana pieces for at least 2 hours before blending — the result will be similar to ice cream.

TCM Notes

Modern Nutrition Research: Laxative effect: Bananas are rich in soluble dietary fiber (pectin), which absorbs water and softens stools. Their oligosaccharides promote the growth of intestinal probiotics and improve gut health. Energy replenishment: Bananas contain natural sugars (glucose, fructose, sucrose) that provide quick energy; milk provides protein and fat for sustained satiety. Sleep support: Bananas are rich in tryptophan and magnesium. Tryptophan converts to serotonin and melatonin in the body, helping to relieve anxiety and improve sleep. Combined with tryptophan in milk, the effect is enhanced. Bone health: Milk is an excellent calcium source; oligosaccharides in bananas promote calcium absorption. Together, they support bone health. Blood pressure support: Bananas are high in potassium and low in sodium, helping to expel excess sodium and support healthy blood pressure.

Suitable forThose with constipation Those needing quick energy replenishment after exercise Those with insomnia or poor sleep quality Children and adolescents in their growing years (bone health) Those with hypertension (blood pressure support) Fitness enthusiasts (with protein powder) Generally suitable for most people as a daily healthy beverage

Not suitable forDiabetics: Bananas are high in sugar (approx. 12g per 100g). Strictly control portion size (use half a banana, no added sugar) and use unsweetened yogurt or low-fat milk. Those with lactose intolerance: Substitute milk with oat milk, almond milk, or coconut milk. Those with spleen-stomach deficiency-cold or prone to diarrhea: Bananas are cool in nature and should not be overconsumed. Consume at room temperature, not chilled. Those with renal insufficiency (potassium restriction required): Bananas are high in potassium — intake should be guided by a physician. Those allergic to bananas or milk
