Cervi Capitis Musculus
Lù Tóu Ròu (Deer Head Meat) is a traditional Chinese medicinal material derived from the head muscle of Sika Deer (Cervus nippon Temminck) or Red Deer (Cervus elaphus Linnaeus), animals belonging to the family Cervidae. This medicinal material was first recorded in Qianjin Shizhi (Essential Formulas for Emergencies - Dietetic Therapy) by Sun Simiao of the Tang Dynasty. The dried meat pieces appear as longitudinal, transverse, or oblique blocks or strips of varying sizes. The surface is brownish-brown or brownish-black, showing muscle fibers. It is light in weight and easily torn. Fresh meat is purplish-red or dark red, flexible in texture. It has a fishy and gamey odor and a slightly salty taste.

Modern Pharmacology
Modern research has shown that deer head meat is high in protein and low in cholesterol and fat. It has a beneficial regulatory effect on the human nervous system and circulatory system, and also exhibits effects in nourishing the liver, enriching the blood, lowering cholesterol, and preventing cardiovascular diseases. Modern clinical research has also shown that deer products have therapeutic effects on palpitations, poor memory, insomnia, rheumatism, and rheumatoid arthritis. Currently, specific modern pharmacological research on deer head meat is insufficient and requires further investigation.

For senile wasting thirst disorder (Xiaoke) (Shouqin Yanglao Xinshu, Deer Head Formula) Take one deer head, remove the hair by burning, wash thoroughly, and boil until thoroughly cooked. When fully cooked, season with five flavors and eat on an empty stomach, also drinking the cooking liquid. For consumptive deficiency, wasting thirst disorder, and frequent nightmares (Bencao Gangmu, Deer Head Wine) Take a deer head, boil until soft, mash into a paste, and use the paste together with the cooking liquid to ferment with fermented rice to make wine. Add a small amount of scallion and pepper when drinking. It tonifies essence and qi.
Daily Consumption
Cooking: Deer head meat may be cooked alone or with five-flavor seasonings for consumption. Gel: Deer head meat may be made into a gel for oral administration. Deer Head Wine: Boil the deer head until soft, mash into a paste, and use together with the broth to ferment rice wine for drinking.
