Efficacy & Actions
In the classroom, many teachers keep a glass of water on the podium and take a sip after lecturing for a while to moisten their throats. Yet many still end up with a dry throat and hoarseness after class. Yuji point is highly effective for those who have lost their voice due to vocal cord inflammation caused by excessive speaking. This point belongs to the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian and is the Ying-Spring point where the meridian qi flows (corresponding to the Fire element in the five-element theory). It clears heat and benefits the throat, and disperses spleen heat. It is a commonly used point for throat disorders and lung-related diseases. First documented in Lingshu · Benshu. "Yu" refers to the muscle bulge at the base of the thumb, shaped like a fish belly; "Ji" means border or edge. Located at the midpoint of the first metacarpal bone on the radial side, at the junction of the red and white skin – hence the name Yuji (Fish Border).
