Efficacy & Actions

There is a very important point on the Heart Meridian – Jiquan. If a person is often depressed, a lump may form under the armpit at Jiquan – a sign of heart qi stagnation. Plucking and massaging Jiquan to dissolve the lump can relieve disorders caused by Heart Meridian stagnation. Additionally, proper plucking of Jiquan under the armpit can help relax the heart. This point belongs to the Hand Shaoyin Heart Meridian and is the starting point of the Heart Meridian. It soothes the chest and calms the spirit, resolves depression and relaxes the heart, unblocks the meridians and collaterals. It is a commonly used point for treating heart, chest, and mental disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Ji" means high or extreme; "Quan" means spring or source. Located deep in the armpit, where Heart Meridian qi springs forth like a fountain – hence the name Jiquan (Supreme Spring).

Contraindications

Needling Jiquan should avoid the axillary artery and should not be too deep to prevent damage to blood vessels and nerves. Manipulation should be gentle.
