Indications
Headache (frontal headache, vertex headache), dizziness, nasal congestion, epistaxis (nosebleed), infantile convulsions, and insomnia.
Precise Location
On the head, 2 cun directly above the anterior hairline on the midline.
Location Method
Sit upright or lie supine. On the anterior midline, measure 3 finger-widths (approximately 2 cun) upward from the anterior hairline – that is the point.
Massage Method
① Massage: Press and knead with the thumb. ② Scraping therapy: Scrape from front to back. Press and knead Xinhui with the thumb about 200 times, or for 3–5 minutes daily, to treat headache and dizziness. Therapeutic actions: Clears the head and brightens the eyes, revives the spirit and opens the orifices, and disperses wind and unblocks the collaterals.
Compatibility
Wind-type headache: Combine with Yuzhen (BL-9). Dizziness: Combine with Baihui (GV-20) and Fengchi (GB-20). Nasal congestion and nosebleeds: Combine with Shangxing (GV-23) and Yingxiang (LI-20). Infantile convulsions: Combine with Shuigou (GV-26) and Dazhui (GV-14).
Efficacy & Actions
This point belongs to the Governor Vessel (Du Mai). It clears the head and brightens the eyes, revives the spirit and opens the orifices, and disperses wind and unblocks the collaterals. It is a commonly used key point for treating head, facial, and mental disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Xin" refers to the fontanel; "Hui" means meeting. Located at the top of the head, at the fontanel where the infant skull bones have not yet fused – where meridian qi converges – hence the name Xinhui (Fontanel Meeting). It is also known as "Xinzhong" and "Guimen."
