Coma, shock, nasal congestion.

Precise Location

On the face, at the midpoint of the upper lip tubercle. Lie supine; locate the point at the junction where the skin of the lower end of the philtrum meets the upper lip.

Location Method

Sit upright leaning back or lie supine. Locate the point at the junction of the red lip and skin at the lower end of the philtrum (the midpoint of the upper lip tubercle).

Massage Method

Massage: Press and pinch firmly with the tip of the thumb. Pinch and press Duiduan with the thumb tip to treat coma and shock.

Compatibility

Mouth sores/ulcers: Combine with Neiguan (PC-6), Zhigou (TE-6), Chengjiang (CV-24), and Shixuan (EX-UE11). Stiff lips and upper tooth decay/caries pain: Combine with Muchuang (GB-16), Zhengying (GB-17), and Ermen (TE-21). Epilepsy with foaming at the mouth: Combine with Benshen (GB-13). Dry mouth: Combine with Sanjian (LI-3) and Qiaoyin (GB-11). Persistent epistaxis (nosebleed): Combine with Heliao (LI-18) and Laogong (PC-8). Yellowish urine (dark urine): Combine with Taixi (KI-3), Yingu (KI-10), and Xialian (LI-9). Epilepsy with foaming, chills, fever, and spasms: Combine with Yinjiao (GV-28), Chengjiang (CV-24), and Daying (ST-5), etc.

Efficacy & Actions

This point belongs to the Governor Vessel (Du Mai). It opens the orifices, rescues from collapse, clears heat, drains fire, calms the spirit, refreshes the brain, promotes fluid production, and quenches thirst. It is primarily used for oral/lip disorders and mental conditions such as trismus, mouth sores/ulcers, halitosis, swollen and painful gums, syncope, mania, and hysteria.

Contraindications

Moxibustion is contraindicated for this point. Needling should be shallow or pricking, generally 0.2–0.3 cun obliquely upward, or pricking to induce slight bleeding. Located near the upper lip tubercle, pinching pressure should not be excessive to avoid skin or mucosal injury. Use with caution during pregnancy.
