It calms the spirit and stabilizes the mind, soothes the heart and strengthens the brain, unblocks the collaterals and relieves pain, and clears heat and releases the exterior. It is a commonly used key point for treating mental restlessness and shoulder-back disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Shen" refers to the spirit and mind; "Dao" means path or channel. Located on the back, this point serves as the channel for the spirit – hence the name Shendao (Spirit Path). It is also known as "Chongdao," "Zangshu," and "Shentong."
