Efficacy & Actions
This point belongs to the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian and is the meeting point of the Gallbladder Meridian and the Belt Vessel (Dai Mai). It regulates menstruation and stops leukorrhea, regulates qi and relieves pain, warms and nourishes Chong and Ren, and frees and regulates the lower jiao. It is a commonly used key point for treating gynecological and lower abdominal disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Wei" means to maintain or uphold; "Dao" means channel or pathway. Located in the abdomen, this point maintains the Belt Vessel pathway and ensures the normal circulation of qi and blood – hence the name Weidao (Maintaining Channel). It is also known as "Waishu."
Contraindications
Located in the lower abdomen near the groin – use with caution in pregnant women. Moxibustion is permissible.
