Indications
Headache and dizziness, red painful eyes, throat swelling, deafness, tinnitus, dorsum foot swelling and pain, axillary swelling, and lumbar pain.
Precise Location
On the dorsum of the foot, between the 4th and 5th metatarsal bones, in the depression proximal to the 4th metatarsophalangeal joint.
Location Method
Sit with the little toe lifted upward – the point is at the medial edge of the extensor digitorum longus tendon of the little toe, where firm pressure produces a distinct sore and distending sensation.
Massage Method
① Massage: Press and knead with the thumb. ② Moxibustion: Apply mild-warm moxa stick. Press and knead Diwuhui with the thumb about 200 times, or for 3–5 minutes, to treat headache and tinnitus. Therapeutic actions: Soothes the liver and benefits the gallbladder, clears the head and brightens the eyes, unblocks the collaterals and sharpens hearing, and reduces swelling and relieves pain.
Compatibility
Tinnitus and lumbar pain: Combine with Ermen (TE-21) and Zusanli (ST-36). Headache and dizziness: Combine with Fengchi (GB-20), Taiyang (EX-HN5), and Taichong (LR-3). Red painful eyes: Combine with Jingming (BL-1), Taiyang (EX-HN5), and Hegu (LI-4). Throat swelling and deafness: Combine with Shaoshang (LU-11), Hegu (LI-4), and Tinggong (SI-19). Dorsum foot swelling and pain: Combine with Jiexi (ST-41) and Qiuxu (GB-40).
Efficacy & Actions
This point belongs to the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. It soothes the liver and benefits the gallbladder, clears the head and brightens the eyes, unblocks the collaterals and sharpens hearing, and reduces swelling and relieves pain. It is a commonly used key point for treating head, facial, ENT, and foot disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Di" refers to the foot and the lower part; "Wu" refers to the five elements and five zang organs; "Hui" means meeting or convergence. Located on the dorsum of the foot, this point is where Gallbladder Meridian qi converges and regulates the qi of the five zang organs – hence the name Diwuhui (Earth Five Meeting).
Contraindications
Located on the dorsum of the foot, needling depth should be carefully controlled – generally 0.3–0.5 cun vertically. Moxibustion is permissible.
