Indications
Headache and dizziness, facial deviation (facial paralysis), tinnitus, deafness, purulent otitis media, toothache, facial pain, and temporomandibular joint disorder.
Precise Location
On the face, in the depression between the intertragic notch and the condylar process of the mandible.
Location Method
Sit upright – with the mouth open, there is a depression just below and anterior to the tragus, where firm pressure produces a distinct sore and distending sensation.
Massage Method
① Massage: Pinch and knead with the thumb. ② Moxibustion: Apply mild-warm moxa stick. Pinch and knead Tinghui with the thumb about 200 times, or for 3–5 minutes daily, to treat tinnitus and deafness. Therapeutic actions: Clears the head and eyes, opens the orifices and sharpens hearing, dispels wind and unblocks the collaterals, and regulates qi and relieves pain.
Compatibility
Tinnitus and deafness: Combine with Tinggong (SI-19). Headache and dizziness: Combine with Fengchi (GB-20), Baihui (GV-20), and Taichong (LR-3). Facial deviation (facial paralysis): Combine with Dicang (ST-4), Jiache (ST-6), and Hegu (LI-4). Purulent otitis media: Combine with Yifeng (TE-17) and Ermen (TE-21). Toothache: Combine with Xiaguan (ST-7), Jiache (ST-6), and Hegu (LI-4). Temporomandibular joint disorder: Combine with Xiaguan (ST-7) and Jiache (ST-6).
Efficacy & Actions
This point belongs to the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian and is the meeting point of the Gallbladder Meridian and the Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian. It clears the head and eyes, opens the orifices and sharpens hearing, dispels wind and unblocks the collaterals, and regulates qi and relieves pain. It is a commonly used key point for treating ear and head-facial disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Ting" refers to hearing; "Hui" means meeting or convergence. Located in front of the ear, this point is where meridian qi converges – it treats deafness and tinnitus, helping to restore hearing – hence the name Tinghui (Hearing Meeting).
