Indications

Borborygmus with abdominal distension, abdominal pain, edema, and difficult urination. This point belongs to the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian. It strengthens the spleen and drains dampness, regulates qi and reduces distension, and unblocks the water passages. It is a commonly used point for treating digestive system disorders and conditions related to dampness. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Lou" means to leak or flow; "Gu" means valley or depression. Located on the medial side of the lower leg, where Spleen Meridian qi flows downward like water through a valley – hence the name Lougu (Leaking Valley). It is also known as "Taiyin Luo."

Precise Location

On the medial side of the lower leg, 6 cun above the tip of the medial malleolus, at the posterior border of the medial aspect of the tibia.

Location Method

Sit upright or lie supine with the lower leg extended. Measure 6 cun (approximately 8 finger-widths) directly upward from the tip of the medial malleolus – the point is in the depression at the posterior border of the medial tibia, where firm pressure produces a distinct sore and distending sensation.

Massage Method

Massage: Press and knead with the thumb. Press and knead Lougu with the thumb about 200 times, or for 3–5 minutes, to treat abdominal pain and distension. Therapeutic actions: Strengthens the spleen and drains dampness, regulates qi and reduces distension, unblocks the water passages.
