Indications
Abdominal pain, abdominal distension, and difficult urination. This point belongs to the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian and is the meeting point of the Spleen Meridian and the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. It regulates qi and reduces distension, and unblocks the lower jiao. It is a commonly used point for treating abdominal and urinary system disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Chong" means thoroughfare or main passage; "Men" means gate or door. Located in the inguinal region, this point serves as the gateway for Spleen Meridian qi entering the abdomen – hence the name Chongmen (Thoroughfare Gate). It is also known as "Shangcigong."
Precise Location
In the inguinal region, in the inguinal crease, lateral to the pulsation of the external iliac artery.
Location Method
Lie supine. The point is located in the inguinal crease, on the lateral side of the external iliac artery pulsation – firm pressure produces a distinct sore and distending sensation.
Massage Method
① Massage: Press with the thumb for a moment, then suddenly release – repeat 5–10 times. ② Scraping therapy: Scrape from top to bottom. Press Chongmen with the thumb for a moment, then suddenly release – repeat 5–10 times – to treat lower abdominal pain, abdominal distension, and difficult urination. Therapeutic actions: Regulates qi and reduces distension, unblocks the lower jiao.
