Indications
Opens the orifices and unlocks the passages. Treats syncope (death-like unconsciousness), inability to open the mouth, nasal sores and polyps, nasal congestion with inability to distinguish odors, and persistent epistaxis (nosebleeds) with rhinorrhea.
Precise Location
On the upper lip, directly below the lateral margin of the nostril, level with Shuigou (GV-26, Renzhong / philtrum).
Location Method
Sit upright or recline with head slightly raised. The point is on the upper lip, directly below the outer edge of the nostril, at the same level as Shuigou (the philtrum).
Massage Method
Press Kouheliao with the index finger pad for 5–10 minutes each session, until a sore sensation is felt. It is effective for allergic rhinitis, nasal vestibulitis, and chronic rhinitis. Therapeutic actions: Opens the orifices and unlocks the passages, clears heat and disperses wind.
Compatibility
Nasal congestion with loss of smell: Combine with Yingxiang (LI-20), Shangxing (GV-23), Wuchu (BL-5), Shuigou (GV-26), Fengfu (GV-16), Bailao (EX-HN15), and Taiyuan (LU-9). Nasal polyps: Combine with Fengchi (GB-20), Fengfu (GV-16), Yingxiang (LI-20), and Shuigou (GV-26 / Renzhong). Epistaxis (nosebleeds): Combine with Shangxing (GV-23), Hegu (LI-4), Yuji (LU-10), and Shaoshang (LU-11). Trismus (locked jaw / inability to open mouth): Combine with Hegu (LI-4), Lieque (LU-7), and Jiache (ST-6). Syncope (death-like unconsciousness): Combine with Cuanzhu (BL-2).
