Indications
Diarrhea, hematochezia (bloody stool), hemorrhoids, impotence, dysentery, leukorrhea, rectal prolapse, and pruritus of the genital region.
Precise Location
In the sacral region, 0.5 cun lateral to the tip of the coccyx.
Location Method
Sit upright with both hands reaching back, palms facing the back. Straighten the middle fingers and bend the other fingers – place the middle finger pads beside the tip of the coccyx; the point is where the middle finger pads rest.
Massage Method
Place the middle finger pads beside the tip of the coccyx and press – a sore sensation will occur. Apply to both sides for 1–3 minutes each. Therapeutic actions: Disperses dampness, supplements yang and benefits qi, regulates the intestines and stops diarrhea, clears heat and drains dampness.
Compatibility
Rectal prolapse: Combine with Baihui (GV-20), Changqiang (GV-1), and Huiyang (BL-35). Disease overview: Rectal prolapse is the protrusion of the rectum through the anus – most common in children under 3 years, with equal incidence in males and females, and often self-resolving with age. Massage sequence: First massage Baihui on the top of the head with the palm for 3 minutes; then massage Changqiang (midpoint between the coccyx tip and the anus) for 2 minutes; finally massage Huiyang for 3 minutes. Pruritus of the genital region: Combine with Quchi (LI-11), Xuehai (SP-10), and Huiyang (BL-35). Hemorrhoids: Combine with Chengshan (BL-57) and Huiyang (BL-35).
Efficacy & Actions
Hematochezia may be a symptom of common digestive disorders such as hemorrhoids, anal fissures, or colon polyps, and may also be a sign of colorectal cancer. If hematochezia is detected, immediate medical examination is necessary – pressing Huiyang can help temporarily relieve the symptoms. The Jiayi Jing states: “Huiyang treats bloody diarrhea with hematochezia.” The Bronze Figure Manual states: “It treats chronic hemorrhoids with yang qi deficiency.” The Tuyi states: “It treats cold qi in the abdomen.” This point belongs to the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian. It disperses dampness, supplements yang and benefits qi, regulates the intestines and stops diarrhea, and clears heat and drains dampness. It is a commonly used point for treating anorectal and reproductive system disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. “Hui” means meeting or convergence; “Yang” refers to yang qi. Located beside the tip of the coccyx, where yang qi converges – hence the name Huiyang (Yang Meeting). It is also known as “Liji.”
Contraindications
Located in the sacrococcygeal region, needling should not be too deep – generally 0.8–1.2 cun vertically to avoid injury to internal tissues. Moxibustion is permissible.
