Indications
Leukorrhea, irregular menstruation, hernia, spermatorrhea, lumbar and leg pain, difficult urination, and enuresis.
Precise Location
In the sacral region, level with the 4th posterior sacral foramen, 1.5 cun lateral to the sacral median crest.
Location Method
Sit upright or lie prone. The point is 2 finger-widths (approximately 1.5 cun) lateral to the midline of the sacral region, level with the 4th posterior sacral foramen.
Massage Method
Massage: Press and knead with the thumb. Press and knead Baihuanshu with the thumb about 200 times, or for 3–5 minutes, to treat lumbar and leg pain. Therapeutic actions: Regulates menstruation and stops leukorrhea, tonifies the kidney and secures essence, regulates qi and relieves pain, strengthens the lumbar region and knees.
Compatibility
Spermatorrhea and irregular menstruation: Combine with Sanyinjiao (SP-6) and Shenshu (BL-23). Leukorrhea: Combine with Daimai (GB-26), Guanyuan (RN-4), and Sanyinjiao (SP-6). Hernia: Combine with Dadun (LR-1), Guilai (ST-29), and Sanyinjiao (SP-6). Lumbar and leg pain: Combine with Shenshu (BL-23), Dachangshu (BL-25), Weizhong (BL-40), and Huantiao (GB-30). Difficult urination and enuresis: Combine with Zhongji (RN-3), Sanyinjiao (SP-6), and Pangguangshu (BL-28).
Efficacy & Actions
This point belongs to the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian. It regulates menstruation and stops leukorrhea, tonifies the kidney and secures essence, regulates qi and relieves pain, and strengthens the lumbar region and knees. It is a commonly used key point for treating gynecological, andrological, and lumbar-leg disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Baihuan" refers to a white jade ring, symbolizing subtle essence; "Shu" means point of transport. Located in the sacral region, this point is where subtle essence is transported – hence the name Baihuanshu (White Ring Shu).
Contraindications
Located in the sacral region, needling should not be too deep – generally 0.8–1.2 cun vertically to avoid injury to internal tissues. Moxibustion is permissible.
