Indications

Precise Location
Inside the oral cavity, on the right vein of the sublingual frenulum.
Location Method
Sit upright with the mouth open and the tongue rolled upward to expose the sublingual frenulum – the point is on the right vein of the frenulum. Yuye is on the right, Jinjin on the left.
Massage Method
Use sterilized gauze to wrap the index finger and gently press and knead the right sublingual vein for 1–2 minutes. Clinical practice commonly uses pricking bloodletting: use a three-edged needle or lancet to prick Yuye and squeeze out a few drops of blood – rapidly reducing swelling, clearing heat, opening the orifices, and benefiting the throat. Strict disinfection is required. Compatibility
Acute tonsillitis: Combine with Shaoshang (LU-11) – for clearing heat, benefiting the throat, reducing swelling, and detoxifying. Post-stroke stiff tongue with speech difficulty: Combine with Lianquan (RN-23) and Fengfu (GV-16) – for reviving the brain and opening the orifices. Diabetes: Combine with Chengjiang (RN-24) – for nourishing yin and descending fire. Sublingual swelling and oral ulcers: Combine with Jinjin (EX-HN12) and Haiquan (EX-HN11). Throat obstruction: Combine with Shaoshang (LU-11), Shangyang (LI-1), and Guanchong (TE-1).
Efficacy & Actions
This is an extraordinary point located on the right vein of the sublingual frenulum. It is a commonly used key point for treating throat and oral disorders. First documented in the Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion. "Yu" refers to jade, symbolizing preciousness; "Ye" means fluid. Located beneath the tongue, this point is where precious fluids are produced – hence the name Yuye (Jade Fluid). Paired with Jinjin (EX-HN12) on the left side. In clinical practice, Yuye is often treated with pricking bloodletting – providing immediate results for acute sore throat and tonsillitis. It is also used for post-stroke stiff tongue with speech difficulty and diabetes.
Contraindications
Located inside the oral cavity – strict disinfection is required to prevent infection. Bloodletting should be quick and shallow, with limited bleeding – generally until the blood color changes from dark red to bright red. Bloodletting is contraindicated in patients with bleeding disorders and pregnant women. Needling should not be too deep to avoid injury to sublingual vessels.
