Indications

Dispels wind and unblocks the collaterals, clears heat and removes toxins, reduces swelling and relieves pain, relaxs the sinews and benefits the joints. Treats wind headache and toothache, arm redness and swelling, finger numbness, finger contracture, dorsal hand swelling and pain, tinea manuum, red painful eyes, and sore throat.

Precise Location

On the dorsum of the hand with the fist slightly clenched, posterior to the web margins between the 1st–5th fingers, at the junction of the red and white skin – eight points in total on both hands.

Location Method

Sit upright or lie supine with the fist slightly clenched. Locate the points on the dorsum of the hand at the web margins between each pair of fingers, posterior to the webs at the junction of the red and white skin. From the thumb-index finger gap (Dadu) to the ring-little finger gap (Xiadu) – four points on each hand, eight in total.

Massage Method

Press and knead each point with the thumb pad in sequence for 3–5 minutes per session, 1–2 times daily – a local sore-distending sensation is optimal. Coordinate with finger flexion and extension exercises to enhance meridian unblocking. Clinical practice commonly uses pricking bloodletting: prick with a three-edged needle to release a few drops of blood for rapid heat clearance, swelling reduction, and pain relief. Therapeutic actions: Dispels wind and unblocks the collaterals, clears heat and removes toxins, reduces swelling and relieves pain, relaxs the sinews and benefits the joints.

Efficacy & Actions

This is an extraordinary point located on the dorsum of the hand, posterior to the web margins between the fingers, at the junction of the red and white skin – eight points in total on both hands. It dispels wind and unblocks the collaterals, clears heat and removes toxins, reduces swelling and relieves pain, and relaxes the sinews and benefits the joints. It is a commonly used key point for treating hand disorders and head-face wind-heat conditions. First documented in the Beiji Qianjin Yaofang (Emergency Thousand-Gold Formulas). "Ba" refers to the eight points; "Xie" means evils or wind pathogens. Located at the eight interdigital spaces on the dorsum of the hand, these points dispel wind pathogens – hence the name Baxie (Eight Evils). The eight points are divided into four groups: Dadu (between thumb and index finger) treats wind headache and toothache; Shangdu (between index and middle finger) treats arm redness and swelling; Zhongdu (between middle and ring finger) treats arm redness and swelling; Xiadu (between ring and little finger) treats arm redness and swelling. Clinically used for finger numbness, dorsal hand swelling, and head-face wind-heat disorders.

Contraindications

Located on the dorsal hand web spaces – needling should be superficial or oblique, generally 0.3–0.5 cun, or pricking for bleeding. Strict disinfection is required for bloodletting to prevent infection. Moxibustion is permissible. Use with caution in pregnant women. Contraindicated in cases of hand trauma or infection.
