Indications
Removes corneal opacities and brightens the eyes, clears heat and drains fire, unblocks the collaterals and relieves pain, descends rebellious qi and stops vomiting. Treats chronic eye pain, corneal opacities and cataracts, blepharitis (red and ulcerated eyelids), and vomiting with diarrhea.
Precise Location
At the midpoint of the transverse crease of the interphalangeal joint on the dorsal side of the thumb.
Location Method
Sit upright or lie supine with the hand extended. Locate the point at the midpoint of the transverse crease of the first interphalangeal joint on the dorsal side of the thumb.
Massage Method
Press and knead with the thumb pad for 3–5 minutes per session, 1–2 times daily – a local sore-distending sensation is optimal. Pinch and knead with the thumb and index finger in opposition, coordinating with closed eyes for enhanced effect. Compatibility

This is an extraordinary point located at the midpoint of the transverse crease of the interphalangeal joint on the dorsal side of the thumb. It is an experienced effective point for treating eye disorders and vomiting/diarrhea. First documented in the Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion. "Da" refers to the thumb; "Gu" means bone; "Kong" means hollow or depression. Located in the depression of the thumb joint – hence the name Dagukong (Large Bone Hollow). The corresponding point on the little finger is Xiaogukong (Small Bone Hollow). Dagukong is an experienced effective point for treating eye disorders, with good therapeutic effects on chronic eye pain, corneal opacities, and cataracts. It is often combined with Xiaogukong (EX-UE6), Guangming (GB-37), and Taiyang (EX-HN5).
Contraindications
Located at the finger joint – massage pressure should be moderate to avoid joint injury. Needling should be superficial or oblique, generally 0.1–0.2 cun, or pricking for bleeding, avoiding deep insertion. Moxibustion is permissible. Use with caution in pregnant women.
