Indications
Hernia, spermatorrhea, impotence, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, enuresis, leukorrhea, lower abdominal distension, difficult urination, genital dampness and itching, amenorrhea, and persistent postpartum lochiorrhea.
Precise Location
In the lower abdomen, at the superior border of the pubic symphysis, on the anterior midline.
Location Method
On the lower abdomen along the midline, palpate downward until a transverse bony landmark (the pubic symphysis) is felt – the point is at its superior border. Approximately 5 cun below the umbilicus on the anterior midline.
Massage Method
① Massage: Press and knead with the thumb. ② Moxibustion: Apply mild-warm moxa stick. Press and knead Qugu with the thumb about 200 times, or for 3–5 minutes, to treat hernia, impotence, and spermatorrhea. Therapeutic actions: Unblocks the lower jiao, regulates menstruation and stops leukorrhea, tonifies the kidney and secures essence, regulates qi and relieves pain.
Compatibility
Hernia: Combine with Dadun (LR-1) and Guilai (ST-29). Spermatorrhea and impotence: Combine with Shenshu (BL-23), Guanyuan (RN-4), and Sanyinjiao (SP-6). Irregular menstruation and dysmenorrhea: Combine with Guanyuan (RN-4), Sanyinjiao (SP-6), and Xuehai (SP-10). Enuresis and difficult urination: Combine with Zhongji (RN-3), Sanyinjiao (SP-6), and Pangguangshu (BL-28). Leukorrhea: Combine with Daimai (GB-26) and Sanyinjiao (SP-6). Lower abdominal distension: Combine with Qihai (RN-6) and Tianshu (ST-25).
Efficacy & Actions
This point belongs to the Conception Vessel (Ren Mai) and is the meeting point of the Conception Vessel and the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. It unblocks the lower jiao, regulates menstruation and stops leukorrhea, tonifies the kidney and secures essence, and regulates qi and relieves pain. It is a commonly used key point for treating urogenital disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Qu" means curved; "Gu" means bone. Located at the superior border of the pubic symphysis, where the bone curves like a bow – hence the name Qugu (Curved Bone). It is also known as "Niaobao," "Guduan," "Qugu," "Huigu," and "Quguduan."
Contraindications
Located in the lower abdomen near the bladder – the bladder should be emptied before needling. Contraindicated in pregnant women. Moxibustion is permissible.
