It strengthens the spleen and harmonizes the stomach, promotes digestion and guides stagnation, descends rebellious qi and stops vomiting, and regulates qi and relieves pain. It is a commonly used key point for treating digestive system disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Xia" means lower; "Wan" refers to the stomach cavity. Located in the lower part of the stomach region – hence the name Xiawan (Lower Stomach Cavity). It is also known as "Weiguan" and "Youmen."
