Indications
Wheezing and stridor, sore throat, cough with qi counterflow, stiff neck with inability to turn the head, throat obstruction with choking sensation, persistent throat swelling, and goiter. This point belongs to the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian. It benefits the throat and reduces swelling, descends rebellious qi and relieves wheezing, regulates qi and disperses nodules. It is a commonly used point for treating throat and neck disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Qi" refers to meridian qi and qi movement; "She" means mansion or dwelling place. This point is where Stomach Meridian qi pauses and resides; located near the throat, it is a key passage for qi movement – hence the name Qishe (Qi Mansion).
Precise Location
In the sternocleidomastoid region, in the small supraclavicular fossa, at the upper border of the medial end of the clavicle, in the depression between the sternal head and clavicular head of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.
Location Method
Directly below Renying (ST-9) at the upper border of the clavicle – that is the point.
Massage Method
Massage: Press and knead with the thumb or middle finger, once daily. Press and knead Qishe with the thumb or middle finger about 200 times, or for 3–5 minutes, once daily, to prevent and treat pulmonary disorders. The manipulation should be gentle – avoid forceful pressure. Treatment duration can be flexible; continue until muscle pain is relieved. Therapeutic actions: Benefits the throat and reduces swelling, descends rebellious qi and relieves wheezing, regulates qi and disperses nodules.
Compatibility
Sore throat: Combine with Lianquan (RN-23) and Tiantu (RN-22). Goiter (thyroid enlargement): Combine with Shuitu (ST-10).
