Indications
Wheezing and stridor, and sore throat. This point belongs to the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian. It regulates qi and relieves wheezing, benefits the throat and reduces swelling. It is a commonly used point for treating respiratory and throat disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Qi" refers to meridian qi and qi movement; "Hu" means door or gate. This point is the gateway for Stomach Meridian qi to enter and exit, located above the chest – hence the name Qihu (Qi Door).
Precise Location
On the chest, at the lower border of the clavicle, 4 cun lateral to the anterior midline. Sit upright with the head slightly raised – the point is in the depression at the intersection of the midclavicular line (vertical line through the nipple) and the lower border of the clavicle.
Location Method
Sit upright with the head slightly raised. The point is in the depression at the intersection of the midclavicular line and the lower border of the clavicle. (Alternatively, locate 4 cun lateral to Xuanji (RN-21).)
Massage Method
Massage: Press and knead with the thumb. Press and knead Qihu with the thumb about 200 times, or for 3–5 minutes, daily, to prevent and treat chest and lung disorders. Therapeutic actions: Regulates qi and relieves wheezing, benefits the throat and reduces swelling.
