Indications

Red, painful and itchy eyes, corneal opacity (nebula), eyelid twitching, and facial deviation (mouth and eye歪斜).

Precise Location

On the face, directly below the pupil, in the depression of the infraorbital foramen (lower edge of the eye socket).

Location Method

Straighten and bring together the middle and index fingers of both hands without separating them. Place the middle finger pads against the sides of the nose – the point is where the index fingertips reach.

Massage Method

① Massage: Press and knead with the thumb or middle finger. ② Scraping therapy: Gently massage with the corner of a scraping board. Straighten both index fingers and knead the points on both sides with the finger pads for 1–3 minutes per session. Therapeutic actions: Dispels wind and brightens the eyes, unblocks the meridians and collaterals.

Compatibility

Facial paralysis (Bell's palsy): Combine with Yangbai (GB-14), Dicang (ST-4), Sibai (ST-2), Jiache (ST-6), and Hegu (LI-4). Disease overview: Complete paralysis of the facial muscles on the affected side results in loss of forehead wrinkles, widened palpebral fissure, flattened nasolabial fold, drooping mouth corner, and deviation of the mouth toward the healthy side when smiling. The affected side cannot wrinkle the forehead, frown, close the eye, puff out the cheeks, or pucker the lips – air leaks when blowing cheeks or whistling due to inability to seal the lips. Massage sequence: First press Yangbai for 5 seconds, then massage Dicang for 5 seconds, massage Sibai for 1 minute, and finally press Jiache and Hegu for 5 seconds each. Eyelid twitching: Combine with Cuanzhu (BL-2) and Sibai (ST-2). Headache: Combine with Yongquan (KI-1), Dazhu (BL-11), and Sibai (ST-2). Keratitis: Combine with Jiache (ST-6), Cuanzhu (BL-2), and Taiyang (EX-HN5).

Efficacy & Actions

In the school eye exercise routine for primary and secondary students, there is a section called "knead Sibai point." Located in the depression below the eye socket, kneading this point is extremely beneficial for eye health. The Jiayi Jing states: "Eye pain, facial deviation, strabismus with blurred vision – Sibai is the primary point." The Bronze Figure Manual states: "Needling must be performed with precision and caution; if needled too deeply, it will cause dark discoloration around the eyes." These records demonstrate the function and characteristics of this point. This point belongs to the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian. It dispels wind and brightens the eyes, unblocks the meridians and collaterals. It is a commonly used point for treating eye disorders and facial conditions. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Si" means four directions or spreading out; "Bai" means brightness or clarity. Located below the eyes, it enables clear vision in all directions – hence the name Sibai (Four Bright).

Contraindications

As this point is located around the eye, manipulation should be gentle. Needling should not be too deep to avoid injuring the eyeball and surrounding tissues – as the Bronze Figure Manual warns: "If needled too deeply, it will cause dark discoloration around the eyes."
