Indications

Chest fullness with qi counterflow, wheezing and stridor, cough and wheezing, and acute mastitis (breast carbuncle). This point belongs to the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian. It regulates qi and soothes the chest, stops cough and relieves wheezing, reduces swelling and disperses nodules. It is a commonly used point for treating chest, lung, and breast disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Ying" refers to the chest; "Chuang" means window or opening. Located on the chest, this point serves as the window through which Stomach Meridian qi communicates with the chest – hence the name Yingchuang (Chest Window).

Precise Location

On the chest, in the 3rd intercostal space, 4 cun lateral to the anterior midline. Sit upright – count 1 intercostal space upward from the nipple; the point is where pressure produces a sore and distending sensation.

Massage Method

① Massage: Press and knead with the thumb. ② Moxibustion: Apply mild-warm moxa stick. Press and knead Yingchuang with the thumb about 200 times, or for 3–5 minutes, daily, to prevent and treat chest and lung disorders. Therapeutic actions: Regulates qi and soothes the chest, stops cough and relieves wheezing, reduces swelling and disperses nodules.
