Indications
Stomach pain, vomiting, abdominal distension, borborygmus (hyperactive bowel sounds), and poor appetite (anorexia). This point belongs to the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian. It harmonizes the stomach and descends rebellious qi, regulates qi and reduces distension. It is a commonly used point for treating digestive system disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Cheng" means to receive or bear; "Man" means full or replete. Located in the upper abdomen, where Stomach Meridian qi is full and can receive the fullness of food and drink – hence the name Chengman (Full Receiving).
Precise Location
In the upper abdomen, 5 cun above the umbilicus (center of the navel) and 2 cun lateral to the anterior midline. The point is 1 horizontal finger-width (approximately 1 cun) directly below Burong (ST-19).
Location Method
Sit upright or lie supine. First locate Burong (ST-19, 6 cun above the umbilicus and 2 cun lateral to the midline), then measure 1 horizontal finger-width downward – the point is where firm pressure produces a distinct sore and distending sensation.
Massage Method
Massage: Press and knead with the thumb or the palm root. Press and knead Chengman with the thumb or palm root about 200 times, or for 3–5 minutes, to treat vomiting and abdominal distension. Therapeutic actions: Harmonizes the stomach and descends rebellious qi, regulates qi and reduces distension.
