Indications

Swelling and pain on the dorsum of the foot. This point belongs to the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian and is the Shu-Stream point where the meridian qi flows (corresponding to the Wood element in the five-element theory). It clears heat and reduces swelling, harmonizes the stomach and promotes fluid metabolism, relaxes the sinews and unblocks the collaterals. It is a commonly used point for treating foot and gastrointestinal disorders. First documented in Lingshu · Benshu. "Xian" means hollow or sunken; "Gu" means valley or depression. Located in the depression between the 2nd and 3rd metatarsal bones on the dorsum of the foot, resembling a valley – hence the name Xiangu (Valley Hollow).
