Indications
Borborygmus (hyperactive bowel sounds) and lower abdominal pain. This point belongs to the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian and is the Lower He-Sea point of the Small Intestine. It regulates the intestines, regulates qi and relieves pain. It is a commonly used point for treating intestinal and abdominal disorders. First documented in Lingshu · Benshu. "Xia" means lower; "Juxu" means great hollow. Located below Shangjuxu in the great hollow on the anterolateral side of the lower leg – hence the name Xiajuxu (Lower Great Hollow). It is also known as "Juxuxialian" and "Xialian."
Precise Location
On the lateral side of the lower leg, 9 cun below Dubi (ST-35), on the line connecting Dubi and Jiexi (ST-41). Locate Tiaokou (ST-38) and measure 1 horizontal finger-width (approximately 1 cun) downward – that is the point.
Location Method
Sit upright with the knee flexed. First locate Tiaokou (ST-38, 8 cun below Dubi), then measure 1 horizontal finger-width downward – the point is where firm pressure produces a distinct sore and distending sensation.
Massage Method
① Massage: Press and knead with the thumb. ② Moxibustion: Apply mild-warm moxa stick. Press and knead Xiajuxu with the thumb about 200 times, or for 3–5 minutes, to treat lower abdominal pain. Therapeutic actions: Regulates the intestines, regulates qi and relieves pain.

Abdominal pain: Combine with Tianshu (ST-25) and Qihai (RN-6).
