Indications
Chest fullness with qi counterflow, wheezing and stridor, chest and hypochondriac distension with pain, cough and wheezing. This point belongs to the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian. It regulates qi and soothes the chest, stops cough and relieves wheezing. It is a commonly used point for treating chest and lung disorders. First documented in Zhenjiu Jiayijing. "Ku" means storehouse or granary; "Fang" means room or chamber. Located on the chest, where Stomach Meridian qi is stored like a storehouse – hence the name Kufang (Storehouse).
Precise Location
On the chest, in the 1st intercostal space, 4 cun lateral to the anterior midline. Sit upright – locate 3 intercostal spaces upward from the nipple; the point is where pressure produces a sore and distending sensation.
Location Method
Sit upright or lie supine. Count 3 intercostal spaces upward from the nipple (reaching the 1st intercostal space), 4 cun lateral to the anterior midline – the point is where firm pressure produces a distinct sore and distending sensation.
Massage Method
① Massage: Press and knead with the thumb. ② Moxibustion: Apply mild-warm moxa stick. Press and knead Kufang with the thumb about 200 times, or for 3–5 minutes, daily, to prevent and treat chest and lung disorders. Therapeutic actions: Regulates qi and soothes the chest, stops cough and relieves wheezing.
Compatibility
Chest and hypochondriac distension with pain: Combine with Qihu (ST-13) and Ruzhong (ST-17).
